Age:  The majority of children placed through our domestic adoption program are placed immediately at birth. Typically adoptive parents are present for labor, delivery and birth of the child. Sometimes a child is relinquished at a later age, but less frequently.  The ethnicity of the children available is typically Caucasian, Hispanic, African American, Asian or Bi-Racial (a combination of any of two ethnicities).
Adoptive Parents Requirements
Marriage:  Single men and women, and married couples may apply. Couples should be married at least two years. Previously divorced individuals may also adopt. Individual considerations can be discussed with your agency representative.
Age:  Minimum age 25, upper limit 50. Individual considerations can be discussed with your agency representative.
Children:  There is no limitation regarding the children already in your home, although the wait is frequently longer for families with more than one child already in the home or single adoptive parents.
Travel: If you adopt a child from outside of your home state, you will be subject to ICPC approval. This requires you remain in that state with the child until approval is received, typically within 7-10 days.
Time Frame:  Due to the personal nature of domestic adoptions, and the fact that the birth parent(s) choose the adoptive parents, timeframes are uncertain. However, the majority of matches and/or placements occur within 12-18 months after completion of your adoption documents.

Referral and Match: Birth parents have the option of selecting the adoptive parents for their child.  You will create non-identifying Personal Family Profiles (three duplicate copies are needed) to present to birth parents. In matching birth parents with prospective adoptive parents, the professional staff of the Agency will select profiles to present to birth parents which best meet the criteria of the birth parents. The staff will make a collective decision based upon ethnic and cultural background, social and medical history of birth parents, geographic location, degree of openness, and birth parent and adoptive parent preferences.

The adoptive parents will be notified when they have been selected by the birth parents for a preliminary meeting to further discuss the possibility of a match. Most birth parents wish to meet the adoptive couple prior to placement.  This meeting occurs with Agency representatives present and in a casual atmosphere.
